Visa and migration discussed at TAIEX workshop in Armenia
Visa and migration issues were the focus of a TAIEX workshop on mobility that brought together representatives from the EU and Armenia. A press release from the EU Delegation to Armenia said the discussions in Yerevan on 8-9 February sought “to prepare the ground for future negotiations on visa facilitation and visa readmission agreements between the EU and Armenia. “
“Our ambition is to go beyond a simple agreement on diplomatic passports. We are looking at a number of visa categories to be facilitated,” said the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Raul de Luzenberger, in his introductory remarks.
Encouraging the mobility of citizens and visa facilitation is an important aspect of the Eastern Partnership, which envisages the possibility of negotiating visa facilitation and readmission agreements between the EU and Armenia, the press release said.
The workshop resulted from the intensified EU-Armenia relations on Justice, Liberty and Security issues, with the establishment of the EU-Armenia Subcommittee on Justice, Liberty and Security in 2010 as one of the practical steps that boosted dialogue in this field.
TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange) supports the EU’s neighboring countries in the approximation, application and enforcement of EU legislation. It is mainly demand driven and contributes to the delivery of tailor-made expertise to address problems at short notice. Assistance is given through expert missions, workshops or seminars and study visits. (ENPI Info Centre)
